La Canada Flintridge, also known as La Canada, is a city in Los Angeles County, California, located in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains. It is bordered to the north by the Angeles Crest Forest and is divided in half by the 210 freeway, making it a popular destination for commuters. This city's neighborhoods include Meadow Grove, Descanso Gardens, Greenridge Estates, Palm Crest, Paradise Canyon, Flintridge Flats, Flintridge Canyon, Sagebrush, Starlight Crest, Starlight Heights, Galaxy Heights, Summit Crest, Arroyo Summit, Upper Alta Canada, and Valley View. While La Canada Flintridge and its surrounding areas are one of the most expensive locations to live in, the price is well worth it for the stunning panoramic vistas and tranquility it provides.

Before it was known as La Canada Flintridge, the area was known as Rancho La Canada and was divided into two communities: La Canada and Flintridge. La Canada Flintridge, incorporated in 1976, kept its different settlements but merged them into its name. Today, it is home to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, numerous lovely parks, and an exceptional school system.

Things to Do

The Descanso Gardens is a must-see in La Canada Flintridge. This cultural center and botanical garden attract tens of thousands of people yearly to see its various floral collections, such as camellias, roses, oaks, lilacs, and California-native plants. The grounds are also home to numerous events and activities.

Space lovers flock to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, one of NASA’s prestigious research facilities. This venue in La Canada Flintridge is open to the public and offers free pre-scheduled tours on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

Some of La Canada's most well-attended gatherings have occurred in Memorial Park. This communal green space hosts an annual Music in the Park Summer Concert Series and a 4th of July parade, to name a few.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Lanterman House is owned and maintained by the city of La Canada Flintridge. This museum is open for tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays and holds many events, including two yearly open houses, exhibits, lectures, and a ragtime tea dance.
